Walters to begin erection of Tower II, Eighth Avenue Place in Q3 2012

From a field of bidders which included all major players in Canada’s structural steel industry, Walters is pleased to announce that our team has been chosen to build Phase II of the LEED Platinum Eighth Avenue Place in Calgary. This award is Walters’ 2nd Calgary tower project (1st was The Bow, completed in 2011) and 3rd of only 4 structural steel towers over 40 floors to be built in Canada over the last 20 years.

A combination of renovations, expansions and new buildings is keeping the Total Joist rolling line very busy. One of the most interesting projects is the addition of 140,000 square feet to the historic Brantford Expositor building, creating new residences for Wilfred Laurier University. Other jobs include a multi-story seniors residence.

Life in Toronto just got a whole lot more interesting with the addition of “the world’s highest outdoor walk on a building” to the iconic CN Tower. During installation of the fully-certified and tested structure, Walters’ fearless team of erectors were first to experience “hanging out” over 100 stories above the city.

With the award of the structural steel for the new train shed, the long-delayed renewal of Toronto's spectacular Beaux-Arts train station is finally underway. With work scheduled to begin later in the year, the transformation is expected to be complete by mid-decade.

Following an 8-month outage for refurbishment of critical systems including full replacement of the tower heads, the Roosevelt Island Tramway went back in to service. The new head structures were modeled and fabricated by Walters, and erected by our US partner, Metropolitan Walters.
