HistoryIn 1956 our company was founded under the banner "Walter's Welding and Iron Works". Our first "shop" was a block structure hand built by our founder Walter Koppelaar Sr., and was located on Upper Wellington Street in Hamilton, Ontario.
Our roots are in ornamental iron and the sound of the hammer striking red hot against an anvil was the order of the day. From these early times, Walter's Welding and Iron Works embarked on a journey that saw the Wellington Street facilities fully develop through the 1960s. The scope of services expanded to include the fabrication and erection of structural steel for commercial projects as well as industrial maintenance work.
Lack of space necessitated a move to Rymal road in 1970 - a site which is currently undergoing its 12th expansion. During the next 2 decades skills were enhanced in the industrial markets - quarries, mines, steel mills - maintenance work was plentiful. Our name became Walters Inc. to reflect our more diverse scope of services.
The recession in the early 90s acted as the catalyst for seeking new markets and leveraging our very diverse experience. A production facility was added in Allenport, Ontario and in 2001 a new production facility and state-of-the-art prep and coatings facility was opened in Princeton, Ontario.
